A journalist lauded by Time magazine for having one of “The 140 Best Twitter Feeds of 2011” has tested positive for COVID-19 despite never taking her mask off around people except for a few brief moments whilst sipping tea.

After announcing on Twitter that “Miss Rona is here to visit me for the first time,” journalist Heidi Moore wrote that her predicament was “really funny/dark because I’ve never taken my mask off around people except to sip a few sips of tea for less than 30 minutes.”

In an effort to explain how these precautionary measures had failed to prevent the virus, Moore pointed the proverbial finger at some dirty children who were playing outside. “I was around some little kids outdoors who came over to say hi to me, that probably had a role,” she wrote.

The announcement comes several days after former Obama health care adviser Zeke Emanuel urged Americans to continue wearing N95 masks, limiting travel, and refraining from eating at indoor restaurants. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) recently announced that House members could continue to “vote from home” until June 28. Many Democratic lawmakers continue to keep their offices closed for so-called health and safety reasons.

During his State of the Union address on March 1, President Joe Biden urged Americans to “get back to work,” insisting that “people working from home can feel safe to begin to return to the office.” Nearly 600,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 on Biden’s watch, but deaths and hospitalizations due to the virus have fallen to near all-time lows following the Omicron spike in late January.

According to a Quinnipiac poll published last week, the COVID-19 pandemic was the only issue on which a plurality of respondents gave Biden’s performance a positive rating. Forty-eight percent said they approved of the president’s handling of the pandemic, compared to 47 percent who said they disapproved. Unfortunately for Biden, just 2 percent of Americans said COVID-19 was “the most urgent issue facing the country today,” compared with 33 percent who cited inflation.

When it comes to issues the American people are actually concerned about—the economy, for example—Biden got a failing grade. Just 32 percent said they approved of the president’s handling of the economy, compared with 63 percent who said they disapproved. A whopping 85 percent of respondents said they think the U.S. economy is at least “somewhat likely” to go into a recession within the next year.
