Barack Obama to Address George Floyd Death During Virtual Town Hall

Former President Barack Obama will make an on-screen appearance on his website to discuss the death of George Floyd at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, NBC News reports.

Obama will share his thoughts on the death of a black man by a white police officer as part of a virtual town hall hosted by My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, which is part of the Obama Foundation.

The conversation is called “Reimagining Policing in the Wake of Continued Police Violence.” The town hall will focus on racial bias in the criminal justice system and the unrest that has taken over the country in the days since Floyd’s death.

Obama has publicly issued statements about Floyd’s death. He has tweeted about the ongoing protests and spoke out against people looting and causing violence. He wrote an essay on the incident encouraging people to vote and to make this moment a “turning point” for change.

This is his first on-camera address about Floyd and the protests. It will be livestreamed on Obama.org.
