Chinese Military Expert Suggests Navy ‘Ram’ Next US Warship

Will Donald Trump Win the 2020 Election?

A Chinese military expert has reportedly suggested the People’s Liberation Navy should “ram” the next U.S. warship to sail through waters claimed by China.

According to a report in the Global Times, Dai Xu, president of China’s Institute of Marine Safety and Cooperation, made the provocative statement at a conference held by the news outlet last Saturday.

“If the U.S. warships break into Chinese waters again, I suggest that two warships should be sent: one to stop it, and another one to ram it,” Dai said during a panel discussion, the Global Times reported.

“In our territorial waters, we won’t allow U.S. warships to create disturbance,” he added, the Global Times reported.

The United States routinely sends vessels on freedom-of-navigation missions through regions in the South and East China seas claimed by China but recognized by most legal experts under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea as international waters, noted Stars and Stripes, which flagged the Global Times report.

The suggestion comes after two recent patrols in the contested waters, the military news outlet reported. There was a near-miss confrontation Sept. 30 with a Chinese warship close to the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea.

The second incident occurred Nov. 26, when the guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville sailed around the Paracel Islands, also in the South China Sea and claimed by China, Stars and Stripes reported.
