Dershowitz: Complaints About Ivanka’s Email ‘Hypocrisy on Parade’

The controversy concerning Ivanka Trump’s use of personal email for her official White House duties is “hypocrisy on parade” because the arguments about the practice turn partisan, Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz said Tuesday.

“Each side uses whatever arguments they can to help and bolster their partisan position,” Dershowitz told Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.” “Everybody uses private emails.”

The Washington Post reported that Trump had sent emails through her account to White House aides, Cabinet members and her assistants.  Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for her attorney, Abbe Lowell, said she “sometimes used her private account, almost always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family.”

Dershowitz said there is a list of at least a dozen people in public life who has used their private emails, and that the president’s daughter used her email account “only for scheduling purposes.”

“There was no classified material,” said Dershowitz. “The emails are all preserved. [It’s all a] non issue. It’s partisan bickering.”

Further, even though President Donald Trump often called during his campaign to “lock her up” when referring to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Dershowitz said he doesn’t agree with that either.

“We should not be criminalizing the use of private emails either for Hillary Clinton or Ivanka Trump,” he said.
