Trump haters have had a lot to say about the outgoing President except in one area. There is little to criticize about his policies regarding defense and the military.
Vice President Mike Pence took to Twitter Sunday to tout Trump’s incredible record, stating the Trump Administration is the “first in decades” to not get the US involved in a new military conflict.
“I’m proud to report with just a few days left in our Administration, our Administration is the first in decades that did not get America into a new war. That’s Peace through Strength.”

When President Trump took office in 2016 the military was spread thin and grossly underfunded.
Obama had launched a troop surge in Afghanistan in 2009, intervened in Libya in 2011, returned troops to Iraq in 201), and a committed U.S. military personnel in the civil war in Syria in 2014. Additionally, ISIS was running amuck in the Middle East and the organization had spread its wings into the U.S. with the death of 14 in San Bernadino, CA in 2015.
Additionally Obama’s administration cut military spending by over 15% along with “sequestration” leaving the military “gutted”.
Trump’s strategy of rebuilding the military and its technology while using economic force and sanctions during his tenure allowed for four years of peace.

According to an October 2020 White House article, President Trump’s military accomplishments include, “increased funding for national defense and secured the largest pay raise for our troops in a decade.”
In fact, Trump increased the Pentagon budget by 20% over his four years of office.
Additionally Trump withdrew from the “disastrous Obama Iran nuclear deal [which] gave the world’s number 1 state sponsor of terrorism over $100 billion to fund violence”. Not only did the President withdraw from the deal but reinstated tough sanctions on Tehran.”
Loren Thompson, senior contributor to Forbes, wrote, “Trump has done more in four years to shift the vector of U.S. military preparations than most presidents accomplish in eight.”
This says a lot considering Forbes chief content officer and editor, Randall Lane, said in a statement, “Let it be known to the business world: Hire any of Trump’s fellow fabulists above, and Forbes will assume that everything your company or firm talks about is a lie.”
The article brilliantly outlines Trump’s military and defense accomplishments including:
China: “Trump presided over a wholesale revision of national defense strategy that shifted the focus of military preparations from counter-terrorism to great-power rivalries.”
Spreading the burden of peace across U.S. allies: “He warned countries like Germany and South Korea that if they did not spend more on the common defense, the U.S. would stop protecting them.”
Modernizing outdated nuclear resources: “His administration fully funded a modernization plan,” and “funded the first major modernization of the nuclear command-and-control system since the Cold War ended.”
Innovation and technology: The research and development budget increased by 49% under Trump, allowing “This enabled all three military departments to develop next-generation weapons while actively pursuing disruptive technologies.”
The entire piece is worth a read.
Whatever nastiness the left and anti-Trumpers may say, President Trump was brilliant in protecting American interests both at home and internationally.
