GOP Rep. Andy Biggs: Border Deal by Feb. 15 Unlikely

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., said Monday he doubts there will be a deal reached by Feb. 15 on border security because Democrats are “really locked in” against putting up a physical barrier.

However, Rep. Biggs told Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” that there are some Democrats who do want the border barrier, but not yet enough to pass a vote in time for the deadline.

“We saw over the last two weeks that we moved from picking up six Democrat votes to picking up 13 by the end of the week,” Biggs said. “Maybe if we would have gone a little bit further we might have picked up some more. I think that there are people there that want a barrier, recognize a barrier, but I don’t know if there’s enough to get there.”

And if more Democrats do not come forward, Trump will most likely have to declare there is an active “drug trafficking corridor” and if he does that, “he’s going to have access to billions of dollars to build the wall, some roads, and infrastructure, I think,” Biggs said.

He added he agrees with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who said earlier Monday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is too afraid of her left-wing base to vote for anything Trump wants.

“She is being held hostage now by the people that put her over the top,” Biggs said. “Remember how close that vote was for her to become speaker of the House.”
