Missouri Attorney General and 2018 Senate candidate Josh Hawley (R.) on Monday invited President Donald Trump to hold a military parade in his state.

In response to widespread criticism of Trump’s request for a military parade, Hawley tweeted that the military and veterans deserve to be honored with a parade. He said that if politicians in Washington, D.C. didn’t want it, Missouri would be glad to host the event.

“.@realDonaldTrump, we would love to host the military parade in Missouri. The politicians in D.C. are wrong. Our military and veterans deserve to be honored,” Hawley tweeted.

Hawley announced his plans in October to challenge two-term Sen. Claire McCaskill (D.) in the November election. McCaskill is considered to be one of the most vulnerable Democratic senators up for reelection given Missouri has swung distinctly to the right in recent years. Barack Obama only narrowly lost the state in 2008, but lost by nearly 10 points in 2012. Trump won by an even large margin, 20 points, in 2016.
