[ Editor’s Note: I had been waiting for what Cohen’s initial comment on Trump’s future would be, but what he is saying below came as a surprise. I don’t think Trump knows for sure at this point what he will do, as there are so many variables.

For now ‘dangling the carrot’ for his return is a given, as he does need a universal issue to rally the base around. As Cohen clearly lays out, Donald has a critical need for fundraising, as he has already been tapping campaign funds to pay his legal bills, which will continue to grow.

Trump knows he is in uncharted waters on the myriad of legal cases building up against him.

We recently had another scathing DC court Insurrection ruling by a Trump appointee that will rattle the Trumper team. First, federal judge Amit Mehta directly places blame for the insurrection on the shoulders of Trump and his criminal associates, saying Trump directed his “pawns” on January 6.

Where there is one that will say this, it is a safe bet that there will be more. Remember such things are in the area of ‘statements of facts’, not the ‘ruling of law,’ which is often run up on appeal.

Unless it has changed I remember some 25 plus years ago my surprise learning that rulings of facts were hardwired into a legal case at the district court level, and hence could not appealed further up the line… Jim W. Dean ]

Michael Cohen, former attorney for Donald Trump, said Sunday that the former president is “grifting off of the American people,” using the 2020 stolen election accusations as a fundraising motivator.

“One of the things Donald Trump has done is grift off of ‘the big lie‘ — that the election was stolen from him in 2020. It was not stolen from him,” Cohen told host Chuck Todd on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Cohen said he was convinced that Trump, contrary to almost all expectations, won’t run in 2024 because a second defeat would be another unacceptable blow to his ego.

“If he loses, and he will in 2024, what happens to the big lie? The big lie disappears,” Cohen said. “He can’t now be like the boy who cried wolf, oh, they stole it from me in 2020, they now stole it from me in 2024.”

Cohen added that Trump will likely appear to be running in 2024 “right to the very, very last second” and then step aside.

…“My case is over. It was over when I had pled guilty,” said Cohen, who served more than a year in federal prison after pleading guilty to campaign finance violations, tax fraud, and bank fraud in 2018, Trump subsequently denounced him as a liar and a “bad lawyer and fraudster.”
