NRA Launches Six-Figure Ad Campaign Against ‘Two-Faced Tester’ in Montana

The National Rifle Association announced a new ad campaign against Senator Jon Tester (D., Mont.) on Thursday.

The gun group’s Institute for Legislative Action said it would be spending six figures to buy time for the 30-second TV ad throughout Montana. The ad accuses Tester of misrepresenting himself to voters by claiming to be for gun rights but voting in favor of Supreme Court justices favored by gun-control advocates like Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor while voting against Neil Gorsuch.

“Contrary to what Jon Tester says in Montana, he has supported the gun-control agenda of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer by voting in favor of gun control in Washington, D.C.,” Chris Cox, executive director of the institute, said in a statement. “Montana gun owners deserve a trustworthy, consistent advocate for their Second Amendment freedoms. Jon Tester cannot be trusted to stand with President Trump and support our fundamental right to self-defense.”

“In Montana, he says he supports gun rights but in Washington, D.C., his votes tell a different story,” the ad’s voiceover said. “In all three votes on Supreme Court justices, Tester sided with Chuck Schumer and the anti-gun liberal left against your right to self-defense. What Jon Tester says in Montana isn’t what he does in Washington, D.C.”

The ad ends with a warning to Montana voters that Tester can’t be trusted: “Jon Tester has two faces, and we can’t trust either one.”
