Special counsel Robert Mueller has questioned at least a dozen Ukrainian political and business figures who attended President Donald Trump’s inauguration events as part of an extensive investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, The New York Times reports.

Investigators have interviewed witnesses on how some of the Ukrainians gained access to the events and who they met while they were in Washington, D.C. They are also asking about illegal foreign lobbying related to Ukraine and whether Ukraine and other countries used “straw donors to disguise donations to the inaugural committee.”

The Times reports the Ukrainians pitched “peace” plans between Russia and Ukraine and the possibility of lifting sanctions imposed on Moscow following its seizure of Crimea.

The new revelation comes a day after lawyers for Paul Manafort, Trump’s ex-campaign chairman, accidentally revealed Manafort might have discussed a “Ukraine peace plan” with a Russian national linked to the Kremlin and also tried to share polling data from the 2016 presidential campaign with a pair of Ukrainian oligarchs who owed him $2.4 million.

Trump’s inaugural committee is under criminal investigation for reportedly misspending some of the funds it raised.
