Will Donald Trump Win the 2020 Election?
Money is pouring in for Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.
Sanders hauled in $4 million in fundraising Tuesday from about 150,000 people just hours after announcing his 2020 presidential bid, The Hill reports.
Sanders is running for the Democratic nomination for the second time after losing to Hillary Clinton in 2016.
“I am asking you to join me today as part of an unprecedented and historic grassroots campaign that will begin with at least a million people from across the country,” he wrote in an email to supporters following an interview on Vermont Public Radio.
Sanders, who enters a crowded field as one of the frontrunners, is running on an agenda to expand healthcare, make higher education free, and broaden the social safety net.
The $4 million raised is more than double the $1.5 million raised by Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., in her first 24 hours.
“The only way we will win this election and create a government and economy that work for all is with a grassroots movement ― the likes of which has never been seen in American history,” Sanders said in a message to supporters Tuesday. “They may have the money and power. We have the people.”
His campaign said the size of the donations averaged $27.
