Two police officers in Southwest Houston were shot today. The suspect is in custody, according to the Houston Police Department. In a press conference, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said police officer Sergent Harold Preston was killed answering a “domestic disturbance” call at an apartment building in the 2600 block of Holly Hall in Southwest Houston.
The Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner, said that Serg. Preston was a member of the Houston Police Department for 41 years. Mayor Turner said that everyone knew Preston and respected him.
The Police chief said that Preston was shot multiple times and died from those injuries in the hospital. Chief Acevedo said that the other officer involved is expected to recover from the injuries sustained during the incident.
According to the local NBC affiliate, the suspect arrested for shooting the two police officers is Elmer Manzano. The report said Texas state criminal records showed Manzano plead guilty to an evading of a police charge. Elmer Manzano was sentenced to 120 days in jail that were never served.
This shooting comes after a string of officer-involved incidents where officers are being targeted for their job title. It is still unclear if that is true in this case, but the dehumanization of this country’s police departments doesn’t help.
Americans forget that when the uniform comes on, these police officers still have families, friends, and loved ones hoping and praying they make it home at night.
Will the Democrats cry for Harold Preston? Will he get 7 funerals in a golden casket?
He will get a beautiful funeral, I am sure. But the Democrats are currently trying to defund the police and would never cry about this injustice. He won’t get seven funerals in a golden casket because he wasn’t doing something illegal while high on fentanyl.
