Will Donald Trump Win the 2020 Election?
CNN host Jake Tapper said Tuesday night that the incoming House Democratic majority would make President Donald Trump’s life a “living hell.”
As CNN host Wolf Blitzer noted the success on Tuesday of Senate Republicans—they were positioned to expand their majority by up to four seats with some races still to be called—Tapper said it was not all sunshine and roses for Trump. Democrats recaptured the House of Representatives for the first time since losing it in the GOP Tea Party wave in 2010.
“[Trump] just lost the House,” Tapper said.
“But he did manage to hold onto the Senate,” Blitzer said.
“And mazel tov,” Tapper said. “But the bottom line is this is not a good night for President Trump. The Democrats have just retaken the House, and they’re going to have subpoena power, and they’re going to make his life a living hell. That’s the bottom line.”
Trump called House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), who could be the next Speaker, on Tuesday night to congratulate her over the Democratic victories in the House. According to her spokesman, he acknowledged her calls for bipartisanship in her victory remarks.
“We will strive for bipartisanship, with fairness on all sides. We will have a responsibility to find our common ground where we can, stand our ground where we can’t, but we must try,” Pelosi said.
