Wallace: Media Blaming Trump for Newspaper Shooting Is ‘Outrageous’

Will Donald Trump Win the 2020 Election?

Blaming this week’s mass shooting at the Capital Gazette on President Donald Trump’s anti-media rhetoric is “outrageous,” according to “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace.

“I have been very outspoken about President Trump calling the media the enemy of the American people – I think it’s wrong – but I have to say that that spectacle that we saw on the South Lawn and some reporters in any way trying to draw a link between his comments about the media to the shooting in Annapolis of five reporters in a newspaper office –– the shooter apparently with a long grudge against that paper –– I think is outrageous,” Fox News’ Wallace said during a panel discussion.

Wallace was referring to questions shouted at President Trump after the Thursday murder of five Capital Gazette newspaper staffers, with the nature of the questions suggesting President Trumps’s frequent media attacks have in some way created an environment for a maniacal shooter to act out against the media.

“Blame Trump, ask questions later,” The Wall Street Journal’s Jason Riley told Wallace.

Wallace then lamented reporters maintaining the narrative of President Trump being complicit in media assaults “even after they knew the facts.”

It has been reported the Capital Gazette shooter had plotted revenge on the newspaper after years of anger and a lost defamation lawsuit.
